In the cold of a December evening in Washington, D.C., a young life was tragically cut short over a pair of basketball shoes. Seventeen-year-old James Anthony Smith, a student at Ballou High School, was shot and killed on a basketball court at the Frederick Douglass Community Center in Southeast Washington.
