In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., violence shattered the quiet of a Northwest neighborhood. On July 30, 2017, at approximately 2:00 a.m., 24-year-old Juan Carlos Osorio-Herrera was shot and killed in the 4800 block of Kansas Avenue, NW. He was not the only victim of this tragic event; another man, David Santiago Amaya-Medrano, 23, was also fatally shot at the same location.
Osorio-Herrera, a male of Mexican descent from San Bartolo Teontepec, Puebla, Mexico, was pronounced dead at the scene. Amaya-Medrano succumbed to his injuries later at a hospital.
The Metropolitan Police Department launched a homicide investigation into the double shooting. In an effort to gather more information, authorities have sought the public's assistance. As part of their investigation, they released a video of a person of interest, showing a young man in a white shirt and dark shorts speaking with two other men. While there is some audio with the video, much of it is unintelligible, and the location of the recording does not appear to be the scene of the crime.
As of now, the case remains open as police continue to seek information from the community to help them solve these homicides. No arrests have been publicly announced, and no specific suspects have been named in connection with the deaths of Juan Carlos Osorio-Herrera and David Santiago Amaya-Medrano. The motive behind the shooting has not been released by the authorities.
