In the winter of 2018, the life of 17-year-old Davon Fisher was tragically cut short in a basement in Northeast Washington, D.C. On the afternoon of January 12th, police responded to a duplex on Riggs Road NE, where they discovered a grim scene. Inside, three individuals had been shot. While two adult males survived their injuries, Davon Fisher was rushed to a hospital where he succumbed to his wounds.
The investigation into the triple shooting led detectives to a suspect, another
teenager from the area. In April 2018, police arrested 17-year-old Shelby Jones of Waldorf, Maryland, charging him as an adult with first-degree murder while armed. The case then moved through the court system, revealing a troubled history for the young defendant. It was reported that Jones had grown up with parents who were drug addicts and had spent a significant portion of his childhood in foster care.
Eventually, Shelby Jones pleaded guilty to second-degree murder while armed for the shooting of Davon Fisher. During legal proceedings, it was stated that Jones admitted to shooting Fisher in the back of the head with the intent to kill him and had also shot the other two individuals to silence them. Jones later made an attempt to withdraw his guilty plea, claiming he did not fully comprehend the agreement, but the judge denied this motion. In November 2019, a judge sentenced Jones to 19 years in prison. At the sentencing, Davon Fisher's mother expressed her profound grief, sharing that her son had plans to attend the University of the District of Columbia and that the pain of his loss was a constant burden.
