In the early afternoon of a Wednesday in Washington, D.C., the life of Pierre Peedy Mercer, a 33-year-old African-American man, was tragically cut short. On May 22, 2019, at approximately 12:48 p.m., in the 2300 block of Shannon Place, Southeast, Mercer was approached and shot multiple times in a brazen daylight attack. The location of the shooting was particularly jarring, occurring near Savoy Elementary School.
Emergency services, including members of the Seventh District, DC Fire, and
Emergency Medical Services, responded to reports of the shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Mercer unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. Despite their efforts, he showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
