In the early afternoon of a Wednesday in Washington, D.C., the life of Pierre Peedy Mercer, a 33-year-old African-American man, was tragically cut short. On May 22, 2019, at approximately 12:48 p.m., in the 2300 block of Shannon Place, Southeast, Mercer was approached and shot multiple times in a brazen daylight attack. The location of the shooting was particularly jarring, occurring near Savoy Elementary School.
