On October 9, 2019, 15-year-old Thomas Johnson was tragically shot and killed near his residence in the 1300 block of Half Street SW, Washington, D.C., close to Nationals Park. The incident occurred around 1:30 p.m., just hours before a scheduled playoff watch party at the stadium. Witnesses reported that Johnson was chased into a courtyard where he was shot multiple times, with some recalling hearing five gunshots. He succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
