In the late hours of a Sunday evening in Washington, D.C., the sound of gunshots shattered the night in the 4600 block of Hillside Road, Southeast. It was November 17, 2019, and a 17-year-old male named Shaquan Buggie, a resident of King George, Virginia, was in the area. When officers from the Sixth District arrived, they found the young man unconscious and suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, and he was quickly transported to
a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Shaquan Buggie succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The initial police report indicated he had suffered a gunshot wound to the head. At the time of the incident, he was the eleventh juvenile to be killed in the District that year.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch began an investigation into the fatal shooting. In the immediate aftermath, authorities had not identified any suspects or determined a motive for the shooting. The investigation remains open, and the Metropolitan Police Department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the case.
