On a spring afternoon in Washington, D.C., 26-year-old Devonte Speight was fatally shot in what police described as a botched attempt to steal his dirt bike. The incident occurred on April 29, 2020, in the 1800 block of Maryland Avenue NE, in the Carver-Langston neighborhood.
