In the winter of 2021, a 27-year-old Black man named Damareus Scott lost his life on a Thursday evening in Washington, D.C. On January 21, at approximately 9:46 pm, the sounds of gunfire echoed through the 1800 block of Alabama Avenue, Southeast. When officers from the Metropolitan Police Department's Seventh District arrived at the scene, they discovered Scott suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
