In the winter of 2021, a dispute between acquaintances culminated in the tragic death of 27-year-old Andrew Session in Washington, D.C. On the afternoon of Thursday, January 21, 2021, at approximately 2:48 p.m., the sounds of gunfire echoed through a residential building in the 4400 block of 3rd Street, Southeast. When officers from the Seventh District of the Metropolitan Police Department arrived at the scene, they discovered Session in a hallway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were quickly dispatched and transported the young man to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Andrew Session, a resident of Southeast, D.C., succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The initial investigation by the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch pointed to a shooting as the cause of death.
For several months, detectives pursued leads in the case. Their investigation eventually identified a suspect, and on Friday, May 7, 2021, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, apprehended 35-year-old Joshua Franklin of Morningside, Maryland. Franklin was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder While Armed. Authorities believe the fatal shooting stemmed from an ongoing dispute between Franklin and Session.
