In the spring of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the evening calm in the Kenilworth neighborhood of Northeast Washington, D.C., leaving a young man fatally wounded. On the evening of Monday, April 19, 2021, at approximately 7:57 p.m., police responded to a report of a shooting. They discovered 27-year-old Kentrell Devaughn, a Black male, inside a vehicle in the 1500 block of 45th Street, Northeast.
He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services arrived at the scene and transported Devaughn to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead the following day, on Tuesday, April 20, 2021. The investigation later revealed that the vehicle Devaughn was in had been struck by several bullets.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are handling the ongoing investigation into Devaughn's death, which has been classified as a homicide. Authorities have not publicly identified any suspects or made any arrests in connection with the shooting.
