In the early morning hours of August 23, 2021, the sounds of gunfire shattered the quiet of the Shaw neighborhood in Northwest Washington, D.C. When police arrived at the 1800 block of Ninth Street NW around 2:24 a.m., they discovered 32-year-old Ali Jamil Al-Mahdi suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
