On August 23, 2021, at approximately 2:24 a.m., Metropolitan Police Department officers responded to reports of gunshots in the 1800 block of 9th Street, Northwest, Washington, DC. Upon arrival, they discovered 32-year-old Ali Jamil Al-Mahdi suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. Despite being transported to an area hospital for treatment, Al-Mahdi succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
