In the early morning hours of February 12, 2024, the life of 32-year-old Jeremy Dewayne Johnson was tragically cut short in Washington, D.C. A resident of Southeast, D.C., Johnson, a male, was in the 900 block of Shepherd Street, Northwest, when the sound of gunshots pierced the pre-dawn quiet at approximately 2:41 a.m.
Metropolitan Police Department officers from the Fourth District responded to the reports of the shooting.
Upon their arrival at the scene, they discovered Johnson suffering from gunshot wounds. Despite the immediate response and any life-saving efforts made, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location.
The investigation into Johnson's death led authorities to identify a suspect. Initially, there were some reports mentioning a different individual, but the focus of the investigation soon centered on 31-year-old Orlando Anderson. Surveillance footage from the area captured images of the person believed to be responsible for the fatal shooting. Subsequently, the Metropolitan Police Department announced they were seeking Anderson in connection with the homicide and a warrant was issued for his arrest on a charge of second-degree murder while armed.
After a period of searching, Orlando Anderson, of no fixed address, was apprehended. He was formally arrested and charged with Second Degree Murder While Armed, bringing a measure of progress in the ongoing quest for justice for Jeremy Dewayne Johnson and his grieving loved ones.
