In the early hours of a Wednesday in Washington, D.C., the life of a young man was tragically cut short. On July 21, 2021, gunfire erupted in the 3500 block of Jay Street, Northeast. When police responded to the sounds of gunshots at approximately 1:00 a.m., they soon learned that a male victim had been struck.
The victim, identified as 25-year-old Malik Mack, was a male resident of District Heights, Maryland.
Shortly after the shooting, Mack sought treatment at a local hospital for a life-threatening gunshot wound. Despite all life-saving efforts by medical personnel, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
Detectives from the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch are actively investigating the case, which has been classified as a homicide. To date, there has been no public announcement regarding any arrests made in connection with the shooting, nor have any suspects been officially named.
The investigation into the death of Malik Mack remains ongoing. The Metropolitan Police Department has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. Authorities continue to appeal to the public for any information regarding the incident and encourage anyone with knowledge of the case to come forward.
