In the winter chill of a Monday night in Washington, D.C., the life of 17-year-old Martez Toney was tragically cut short. On January 2, 2023, at approximately 10:07 p.m., the young man was shot and killed in the 1200 block of Alabama Avenue, SE. The incident unfolded at a bus bay just outside the Congress Heights Metro station, a place of transit now marked by violence.
