On January 2, 2023, a tragic incident occurred at the Congress Heights Metro Station in Southeast Washington, D.C., resulting in the death of 17-year-old Martez Toney. The incident happened shortly after 10 p.m. when two teenagers were shot at a bus bay at the Metro station. The Metro Transit Police Department received a call from a Metro employee who reported hearing gunfire and seeing that two children had been shot.
