In the early evening of Saturday, January 25, 2025, a burst of violence shattered the quiet of a residential building in Northeast Washington, D.C., leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. Thomas Drew Jr., a 24-year-old male from Bowie, Maryland, was discovered in a hallway in the 1500 block of Benning Road, Northeast, suffering from gunshot wounds.
The call reporting the shooting came in at approximately 5:09 p.m., prompting a swift response from Fifth District officers of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers found Mr. Drew in dire condition. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel were quickly on the scene and began life-saving efforts as they rushed him to a nearby hospital. Despite the urgent medical attention he received, the injuries proved to be too severe. Thomas Drew Jr. was pronounced dead at the hospital, turning a distressing incident into a homicide investigation.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is now leading the inquiry into this fatal shooting. As of now, authorities have not taken any suspects into custody, and the investigation remains ongoing. In an effort to bring those responsible to justice, the police are appealing to the public for any information related to the incident. A reward of up to $25,000 is being offered for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent crime.
