In the cool autumn evening of Sunday, October 12, 2025, the life of 30-year-old Simon Getachew, a male of Ethiopian descent, was tragically cut short on a residential street in Southeast Washington, D.C. At approximately 10:18 p.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Seventh District were dispatched to the 3800 block of 9th Street, Southeast, following reports of a shooting. Upon their arrival, they discovered Getachew suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
