Do you know who murdered Santino L Henson? In the early morning hours of March 16, 2003, the life of 19-year-old Santino L. Henson was tragically cut short in a parking lot in Northwest Washington, D.C. The young man was sitting in the driver's seat of a car at the rear of 33 K Street, NW, when he was fatally shot.
The incident unfolded around 2:00 a.m. when a white van entered the Temple Courts parking lot where Henson and a friend were located.
Several individuals exited the van and an altercation ensued after they approached Henson and his companion to allegedly purchase marijuana. During the dispute, one of the men from the van brandished a handgun and opened fire. Henson's friend managed to escape on foot as the shots were fired. When he returned to the parking lot, he found that Henson had been shot. A call for an ambulance was made, but his injuries proved to be fatal.
In the wake of the shooting, an investigation was launched by the Metropolitan Police Department. This led to the arrest of 24-year-old Kevin English of Lorton, who was reportedly identified as the individual who shot Henson three times as he sat in his car. The case, however, remains listed as under investigation by the police department, which has offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those responsible for his death.
In the years following his death, Santino Henson's family has continued to seek justice. His mother, Karen Henson, filed a lawsuit in her individual capacity and as the personal representative of her son's estate. The family has also kept his memory alive through memorial notices in the local newspaper on what would have been his birthdays.
