In the early hours of July 1, 2020, violence erupted in the 1800 block of Q Street, Southeast in Washington, D.C., leaving a young man's life tragically cut short. At approximately 1:22 a.m., officers from the Sixth District of the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they discovered 18-year-old Kelvin Goggins, a resident of Southeast, D.C., suffering from a gunshot wound. D.C.
Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel transported him to a local hospital, but despite all life-saving efforts, he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the death of the male teenager led detectives to identify a suspect. On October 8, 2020, the Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch announced a significant development in the case. Pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, they arrested 21-year-old Dohn Harmon, also of Southeast, D.C. Harmon was subsequently charged with First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with Goggins' death.
Further details emerged suggesting a motive of retaliation for the murder of a friend of Harmon's. The case proceeded through the legal system, and at one point, Harmon was offered a plea deal. In a later development, Dohn Harmon pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of voluntary manslaughter while armed. This plea was part of an agreement that would dismiss the other charges against him, including the initial first-degree murder charge.
