In the winter of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the early afternoon calm in a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. When the violence ceased, 37-year-old Marcus Thomas, a Black/African American male, lay dead from gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred around 1:21 p.m. on Thursday, December 23rd, in the 4200 block of 4th Street, Southeast, also claimed the life of 28-year-old Russell Williams and left a third man critically injured.
Emergency responders arrived to find one
victim deceased at the scene. They later learned that two other men had been transported to a local hospital with life-threatening gunshot wounds. Despite medical efforts, one of these men, later identified as Thomas, succumbed to his injuries. The third victim was treated for his life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the double homicide. While no arrests have been made and no specific suspects have been publicly identified, authorities have indicated they are searching for a silver Audi sedan with tinted windows and a sunroof that may be connected to the shooting.
The police have offered a substantial reward of up to $50,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for the deaths of Marcus Thomas and Russell Williams. The investigation remains ongoing as authorities continue to appeal to the public for assistance in bringing those responsible to justice.
