In the winter of 2021, a burst of gunfire shattered the early afternoon calm in a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood. When the violence ceased, 37-year-old Marcus Thomas, a Black/African American male, lay dead from gunshot wounds. The incident, which occurred around 1:21 p.m. on Thursday, December 23rd, in the 4200 block of 4th Street, Southeast, also claimed the life of 28-year-old Russell Williams and left a third man critically injured.
