In the afternoon of Friday, October 25, 2024, tragedy struck in the 2800 block of Langston Place, Southeast, Washington, D.C. At approximately 4:16 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the air, prompting a response from the Seventh District officers of the Metropolitan Police Department. Upon their arrival, they discovered a grim scene with two individuals suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims was 16-year-old Darren Johnson, a resident of Southeast, D.C.
Emergency services from DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services were quick to arrive and transported both Johnson and an unidentified adult male to nearby hospitals for medical attention. Despite the efforts of medical professionals, Darren Johnson succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim was reported to be in critical condition. The incident unfolded as officers were initially attending to a man with gunshot wounds in the 2700 block of Langston Place SE. While providing aid, they heard more gunfire and proceeded to the 2800 block, where they found Johnson.
The Metropolitan Police Department is actively investigating the homicide and is asking for the public's help in gathering more information. Authorities are searching for a suspect described as a Black male who was last seen fleeing the area on foot. The suspect was reportedly wearing all-black clothing that had white writing on the back. As of now, the case remains unsolved. To encourage witnesses to come forward, the police department is offering a reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this violent act.
