In the early hours of a Sunday morning in Washington, D.C., violence erupted that left one man dead and another fatally wounded. On March 13, 2022, at approximately 1:05 a.m., officers from the Metropolitan Police Department responded to reports of a shooting in the 1100 block of 1st Place, Northwest. Upon arrival, they discovered 36-year-old Morris Mitchell suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical personnel who arrived at the scene pronounced Mr.
Mitchell, a resident of Northeast, D.C., dead at the location. His body was later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. Another man, 22-year-old Antoine Jenkins of Capital Heights, Maryland, was also found at the scene with gunshot wounds. Jenkins was rushed to a local hospital for treatment of his life-threatening injuries, but he later succumbed to his wounds and was pronounced dead.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch is actively investigating the double homicide. Authorities have reached out to the public for assistance in gathering information regarding the shooting. The department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for this crime. To date, there have been no public announcements regarding any arrests or the identification of any suspects in the shooting deaths of Morris Mitchell and Antoine Jenkins. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to search for those responsible for this fatal incident.
