In the early morning hours of October 28, 2022, a fatal encounter unfolded in an apartment building on the 900 block of Bellevue Street in Southeast Washington, D.C. Inside, 38-year-old Maurice Frazier was spending time with his girlfriend, preparing for her graduation ceremony that was scheduled for later that morning. The peace was shattered around 2:40 a.m.
when Myron Hickson, the father of his girlfriend's child, began banging on the apartment door.
Frazier attempted to de-escalate the situation, telling Hickson that he could see his son the next day. However, the confrontation moved from the apartment into the hallway. A short time later, the sound of gunshots echoed through the building. Frazier's girlfriend, who had remained inside, opened the door to a horrific scene: Frazier was lying lifeless in front of the apartment. He had sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his chest, arm, head, and genitals and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The investigation into Maurice Frazier's death led authorities to 34-year-old Myron Hickson of District Heights, Maryland. On December 16, 2022, members of the Capitol Area Regional Fugitive Task Force arrested Hickson based on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant. He was subsequently charged with second-degree murder while armed.
During the trial, the prosecution painted a picture of a personal and deliberate act, stating, 'Myron Hickson shot and killed Maurice Frazier… this was personal.' They argued that Hickson was fixated on a love triangle dynamic with his child's mother and any man she was dating. The first responding officer testified that upon his arrival, a woman at the scene, who was upset and crying, told him, 'my son's father did it.' Hickson's defense attorney countered with a claim of self-defense, asserting that Hickson feared for his life after Frazier allegedly pulled a gun. As of March 2024, court proceedings were ongoing, with the defendant waiving his right to independent DNA testing.
