On a Monday afternoon, March 14, 2022, violence shattered the day in the 700 block of 13th Street, Southeast in Washington, D.C. It was here that 62-year-old Antwan Brown and another man, 22-year-old Antoine Jenkins, were shot. The incident occurred at approximately 3:21 p.m., prompting a swift response from the First District officers of the Metropolitan Police Department.
Upon their arrival, officers discovered both Mr. Brown and Mr. Jenkins suffering from gunshot wounds.
Emergency medical services were dispatched to the scene, but for one of the victims, it was already too late; he showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the location. The second victim, in a critical state with life-threatening injuries, was rushed to a local hospital. Despite the efforts of medical personnel, he also succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead.
The investigation into the double homicide led detectives to identify a suspect. On Thursday, May 12, 2022, members of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force, acting on a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, apprehended 27-year-old Raymond Khalil Jones of Temple Hills, Maryland. Jones was subsequently charged with two counts of First Degree Murder while Armed in connection with the deaths of Antwan Brown and Antoine Jenkins. The case against him was set to move through the court system, with a plea agreement offered by the prosecution in December of that year. Court proceedings in early 2023 indicated that Jones, who had been released to the High Intensity Supervision Program with an ankle monitor, was still considering the plea offer.
