On a Sunday evening in Washington, D.C., the life of 31-year-old Anthony White was tragically cut short. On May 5, 2024, at approximately 7:41 p.m., events unfolded in the 3500 block of Stanton Road, Southeast, that would end in gunfire. Responding to reports of gunshots, officers from the Seventh District arrived at the scene.
It was discovered that two men had sustained gunshot wounds and had been taken to a local hospital.
Despite the efforts of medical personnel, Anthony White, a resident of Northwest, D.C., succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The second victim, an adult male, was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch immediately began an investigation into the shooting. For over a year, detectives worked the case, seeking information from the public to piece together the events of that fatal evening. The department offered a reward of up to $25,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for what was determined to be a homicide.
The investigation led to a significant development on Thursday, May 22, 2025, when an arrest was made. Pursuant to a D.C. Superior Court arrest warrant, 17-year-old Damari Thomas of Southeast, D.C., was taken into custody. Thomas has been charged as an adult with Second Degree Murder while Armed. While an arrest has been made, authorities have indicated that the investigation remains ongoing.
