In the spring of 2022, a tragic event unfolded in a Southeast Washington, D.C. neighborhood, leaving a family and community searching for answers. On the morning of May 5th, the life of 33-year-old Treyvon Green, a Black male, was cut short by violence. First responders were called to a residence in the 2300 block of Green Street, SE, around 9:26 a.m. for a report of a shooting. Inside, they discovered Mr. Green suffering from gunshot wounds.
Despite the efforts of DC Fire and Emergency Medical Services, he showed no signs of life and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The Metropolitan Police Department's Homicide Branch immediately launched an investigation into the death of the Southeast, DC resident. The community was already on edge, as this was the second fatal shooting to occur on that same block in less than a 24-hour period. The day before, another man had been found shot and killed, casting a shadow of fear and uncertainty over the neighborhood. Authorities have been looking into whether the two homicides are connected, but have not yet announced any definitive link between the violent incidents.
As of now, the investigation into Treyvon Green's death remains ongoing, and no arrests have been made. The police have not released any information about a potential suspect or suspects in the case. In an effort to bring closure to his loved ones and justice for his killing, the Metropolitan Police Department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for his death. They are urging anyone with knowledge of the shooting to come forward and share what they know, in the hopes of piecing together the events of that tragic morning and holding the perpetrator accountable.
