On October 11, 2022, Erik King, a 28-year-old resident of Washington, D.C., was fatally shot inside an apartment located in the 800 block of 21st Street, Northeast. The incident occurred in the early morning hours, around 5:31 a.m., when members of the Fifth District responded to reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they found King inside a residence, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
