He was fatally shot along with his 19-year-old nephew, Jeffrey Joyner, on the 2700 block of Kane Street in the Highland Gardens section of Chester. The incident occurred around 11:45 p.m. on September 5, 2010.
Authorities identified Brian "Itchy" Selby and Jujuan "Apples" Parker as suspects in the double murder.
Witnesses reported seeing Selby and Parker driving a black van around the neighborhood that night. According to the testimony, Thompson and Joyner had a confrontation with another man at a cookout earlier that evening, and shortly after, Selby and Parker were seen driving the van on Kane Street. Selby allegedly exited the van, put on a black sweatshirt, and then shots were fired.
In the subsequent investigation, Selby was charged with the murders, but he was later acquitted of all charges. However, Parker was convicted on two counts of third-degree murder and sentenced to life in prison.
