Edward Boyer, a 40-year-old man from Chester, PA, tragically lost his life on November 6, 1948. He was killed by Melvin Collins, a 38-year-old man from Exmore, Virginia, who committed a mass shooting from the window of his boarding room in Chester. Collins killed seven people and injured four before taking his own life. The motive behind the shooting remains unknown, although initial rumors suggested it might have been related to an argument over a numbers racket, which police later rejected.
