In the Adams Morgan neighborhood of Washington, D.C., on the evening of December 17, 2022, the life of 18-year-old Derron McQueen was tragically cut short. A Black male from Temple Hills, Maryland, McQueen was found in the 1700 block of Euclid Street, Northwest, just after 10:00 p.m. Officers from the Metropolitan Police Department’s Third District were initially dispatched to the scene following a report of a person being struck by a vehicle.
Upon their arrival, the situation proved
to be far more grim than a traffic accident. Instead of finding a victim of a collision, they discovered McQueen suffering from apparent gunshot wounds. D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services personnel responded to the scene but found no signs of life. Derron McQueen was pronounced dead at the location, his body later transported to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner. The initial report of a vehicle collision added a layer of confusion to the violent event, with some sources indicating he had been both shot and struck by a car.
The Homicide Branch of the Metropolitan Police Department immediately launched an investigation into the killing. While details about a motive or potential suspects have not been publicly released, authorities have sought help from the community. A significant piece of evidence they are focusing on is a vehicle believed to be connected to the crime. Police have asked for the public's assistance in locating a white Chevrolet Volt with silver rims, which may have a missing driver's side window.
As of now, no arrests have been made in the case, and the investigation remains ongoing. The Metropolitan Police Department is offering a substantial reward of up to $25,000 for any information that leads to the arrest and conviction of the person or persons responsible for Derron McQueen's death. They continue to urge anyone with knowledge of the incident to come forward and contact detectives or submit an anonymous tip.
