In the early morning hours of October 22, 2016, the life of Rayvon Solomon, a 28-year-old Black man, was tragically cut short in Las Vegas, Nevada. Having moved from Chicago to escape the violence of his former city, Solomon ironically met a violent end in what was supposed to be a new beginning. He was discovered outside a residence on the 1300 block of Sun Point Drive, near Washington Avenue and Jones Boulevard, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds.
First responders rushed him to University Medical Center, but his injuries proved fatal, and he was pronounced dead.
The investigation into his death quickly uncovered a story of a bitter rivalry. Authorities identified 33-year-old Steven Lewis as the suspect. The conflict reportedly arose from a love triangle involving Lewis, Solomon, and a woman who was apparently dating both men. On that fateful night, the tensions escalated when Lewis confronted Solomon and the woman at a local restaurant. This confrontation was not the end of the matter, as Lewis proceeded to follow the couple to the Sun Point Drive residence.
At the residence, a physical altercation broke out between the two men. During this fight, Lewis allegedly brandished a weapon and shot Solomon multiple times. Solomon stumbled out of the residence before collapsing. In a strange turn of events, as police were on the scene attempting to render aid to the mortally wounded Solomon, Lewis returned to the location. He was promptly arrested by the officers present.
Following the investigation, the Clark County coroner's office officially ruled Rayvon Solomon's death a homicide. Steven Lewis was subsequently charged with one count of murder with a deadly weapon, bringing a swift, though somber, development to a case that ended one life and irrevocably altered another, all stemming from a personal dispute that spiraled into deadly violence.
