In the early morning hours of September 18, 2014, a violent confrontation at a Las Vegas apartment complex tragically ended the life of 25-year-old Arnoldo Hermosillo. The Hispanic male died from a gunshot wound to the stomach amid a chaotic series of events that began with a dispute inside one of the units.
The incident unfolded around 5:30 a.m. in the 4600 block of Vegas Drive, near Decatur Boulevard.
According to police, a fight broke out inside an apartment where a man, later identified as 30-year-old Jabron Carr, allegedly struck another individual on the head and face with a handgun. Following this assault, Carr and two other men left the apartment.
Witnessing the altercation, Hermosillo confronted the three men as they were walking away. Armed with an assault rifle, he opened fire on the group, striking one of them in the ankle. As two of the men fled, Hermosillo continued to shoot at them. It was at this point that Carr, also armed, returned fire, fatally wounding Hermosillo. Emergency services were called to the scene, but Hermosillo was pronounced dead.
After the shooting, Carr fled to a nearby home in the 1700 block of Yellow Rose Street, less than a mile from the Andiamo Apartments where the shooting occurred. His presence in the home led to a tense standoff with a Metro SWAT team that lasted for approximately four hours. Ultimately, Carr surrendered to the authorities without further incident and was arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of Arnoldo Hermosillo.
