In the early morning hours of June 19, 2022, a violent altercation under the bright lights of the Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas tragically cut short the life of 23-year-old Raymond Renova. The male was a tattoo artist who, though living in Las Vegas, had his permanent residence in California. The incident began around 2 a.m. near the entrance to Binion's when a dispute between two groups of people escalated into a physical fight.
The confrontation took a fatal turn when a handgun was introduced into the brawl. Raymond Renova was shot and rushed to University Medical Center, where he later died from his injuries. Another individual, described as an innocent bystander, was also injured during the shooting but survived.
The investigation into Renova's death led Las Vegas Metropolitan Police to identify two suspects. The first to be apprehended was 17-year-old Ruben Robles, who was arrested in June. Despite his age, it was determined that he would be tried as an adult. The second suspect, 21-year-old Fabian Carmona, was arrested in July. According to police reports, surveillance footage showed Carmona throwing the first punch, which initiated the physical fight. Authorities allege that during the ensuing melee, Robles fired the shots that killed Renova and wounded the other victim.
Following their arrests, both suspects faced serious charges. Ruben Robles was indicted by a grand jury on charges of murder, attempted murder, and battery with a deadly weapon. Fabian Carmona was charged with murder, attempted murder, and conspiracy to commit murder. The family of Raymond Renova remembered him as a loving son, brother, uncle, and cousin whose life was senselessly taken. They set up a GoFundMe page to help with funeral expenses, aiming to hold the service in California.
