On a winter morning in Las Vegas, the life of Jasmin Rochelle Haley, a 39-year-old Black/African American female, was tragically cut short. On January 25, 2017, Haley was found with gunshot wounds inside a residence on the 3500 block of Morning Mist Drive, near Pecos and Alexander roads. A gathering had taken place at the home earlier, and upon returning, her roommate made the devastating discovery and alerted the authorities.
Medical personnel pronounced her dead at the scene.
The investigation into the homicide continued for weeks. Friends and family mourned the loss of a woman described as a "song bird" and a "dancing machine" who lit up every room she entered. Her soft voice and strong vocals were remembered by those who knew her, along with her great spirit. The unexpected nature of her death left loved ones heartbroken and searching for answers about what transpired after the gathering at her home.
A break in the case came on the morning of February 8, 2017. A man named Lun Simon, age 43, walked into a Dotty's tavern on the 4200 block of Boulder Highway and informed employees that there was a warrant for his arrest. Police were called to the location and took Simon into custody without incident. He was subsequently transported to police headquarters for questioning. Simon was arrested in connection with Haley's death and booked at the Clark County Detention Center on charges of murder and burglary while in possession of a firearm.
