On July 31, 2021, at approximately 9:48 p.m., the sound of gunshots pierced the air in an alley on the 1100 block of Toni Avenue, near the intersection of Tropicana Avenue and Maryland Parkway. When police officers arrived at the scene, they discovered Martinez suffering from critical gunshot wounds.
