Lisa Romero Muniz, a 48-year-old Hispanic woman, was tragically killed on October 1, 2017, in the mass shooting at the Route 91 Harvest music festival in Las Vegas, Nevada. A resident of Gallup, New Mexico, she had traveled to Las Vegas with her husband, Chris, to celebrate their wedding anniversary by seeing country singer Jason Aldean perform. Friends recalled her excitement about the trip, which her husband had planned to make up for a forgotten anniversary the previous year.

A beloved member of her community, Lisa had worked for the Gallup-McKinley County Public Schools since 2003, most recently as a discipline secretary at Miyamura High School. Colleagues and students remembered her as an incredible, loving, and sincere friend, mentor, and advocate who was outgoing, kind, and considerate. Her death was a profound loss for her husband, three children, and grandchildren.

The perpetrator of the attack was identified as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock, who opened fire on the concert crowd from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino. After killing 58 people and injuring hundreds more in the deadliest mass shooting in modern U.S. history, Paddock took his own life before law enforcement could apprehend him. He was identified as the sole gunman, and there were no other suspects or arrests in connection with the massacre. In honor of her memory, the road leading to the Gallup-McKinley County Schools' Central Office and Miyamura High was designated as "Miss Lisa Lane."
