In the summer of 2019, the life of 48-year-old Black / African American female, Kinnetha Lord, was cut short in her Las Vegas home. On the evening of July 29th, her husband, Sebastian Lord, placed a 911 call, claiming his wife had taken her own life. When authorities arrived at their residence on Casselman Court, they discovered Kinnetha deceased in the master bathroom from what appeared to be a gunshot wound.
However, inconsistencies in Sebastian Lord's account of the events immediately
raised red flags for the homicide detectives who took over the investigation. He initially told police that he had gone to bed the previous night and woke up to find his wife dead. He then claimed that he and their teenage son traveled to California before returning home and contacting the authorities. The suspicious nature of his story and the scene itself led investigators to doubt the initial report of suicide.
The couple's teenage son provided a chillingly different narrative to law enforcement. He reported hearing a gunshot on the evening of July 28th and also disclosed that his father had made previous threats to shoot his wife and "chop her up into little pieces." This testimony, coupled with the discovery of a 9mm cartridge case and a gun in the home, painted a grim picture of the final moments of Kinnetha's life. The Clark County Coroner's Office later confirmed that she had died from a gunshot wound to the back of the head, ruling her death a homicide.
Faced with mounting evidence, Sebastian Lord's story crumbled. He eventually admitted to investigators that he might have shot his wife but claimed he could not remember doing so. The investigation revealed that after the shooting, he had moved her body to the bathtub, attempted to clean the scene, and then took a nap before calling 911. Sebastian Lord was arrested and charged with the murder of his wife. He was taken into custody and held at the Clark County Detention Center without bail.
