The investigation into Cushman's murder led authorities to Carroll Edward Cole. It was not long before they uncovered a string of other violent crimes connected to him. In 1984, Cole stood trial not only for the murder of Marie Cushman but also for the 1977 slaying of Kathryn Joan Blum, another Las Vegas woman.
