Oliver Hillman, a 53-year-old man, was found shot near the Silver Nugget Casino along Las Vegas Boulevard North on the evening of September 6, 2021. Responding officers discovered he had suffered a gunshot wound to the neck, and the Clark County coroner later ruled his death a homicide. His killing was the first in a rapid succession of shootings that night in North Las Vegas, where two other men were also gunned down within roughly two hours.
Police quickly focused on 35-year-old Tristan Tidwell, who was detained early the next morning and later charged in connection with all three Labor Day killings. Investigators linked him to Hillman’s death and the two subsequent shootings through witness accounts, surveillance, and an arrest report in which Tidwell described the locations and injuries of the victims. He was initially booked on weapons offenses; detectives then added three counts of open murder with a deadly weapon.
Court records show Tidwell ultimately pleaded guilty but mentally ill in January 2023 to three counts of murder with a deadly weapon. In March 2023, a judge sentenced him to three consecutive terms of life in prison without the possibility of parole. Hillman was formally identified by the coroner as one of the three men killed that night.
