On the morning of May 21, 1981, the life of 53-year-old Calvin Castleberry, a Black male known to his friends and family as 'Sarge,' was cut short by an act of violence in Denver, Colorado. Officers from the Denver Police Department were dispatched to the 2600 block of Welton Street following a report of a shooting. The scene of the crime was the living quarters of a building situated behind what was then Bishop's Barber Shop in the Five Points business area.
Upon their arrival,
authorities discovered Calvin Castleberry with a severe gunshot wound to his torso. He was immediately rushed to a local hospital for medical attention, but tragically, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead. The case was classified as a homicide, launching an investigation into who was responsible for his death.
Despite the efforts of law enforcement, no arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Calvin Castleberry. His case has remained unsolved for decades and is now considered a cold case. The Denver Police Department's Cold Case Unit continues to seek any information that could lead to the identification and arrest of a suspect or suspects.
