Their friend, 33-year-old Francisco Felix-Ochoa, a Hispanic male, had vanished without a trace. He was last seen by those who knew him on May 31, 2009, and as days turned into weeks, and weeks into months, the hope of his safe return began to fade, replaced by a growing dread.
The mystery of his disappearance lingered through the summer, a silent question mark in the lives of his
loved ones. It wasn't until September 18, 2009, that a grim discovery brought a horrifying answer. The decomposing remains of Francisco Felix-Ochoa were found in the bushes just off Highway 115, near the border of Fremont County, a lonely stretch of road south of the city. The discovery confirmed the worst fears of his friends and family and marked the beginning of a homicide investigation.
An autopsy would later reveal that Felix-Ochoa had been shot, his life taken by a violent act.
