Benjamin Lee Sharkey, a 30-year-old male, tragically lost his life on the evening of Sunday, January 7, 2018, in Colorado Springs, Colorado. He was found with a fatal gunshot wound in the 100 block of West Motor Way. First responders from the Colorado Springs Fire Department arrived at the scene around 7:20 p.m. and immediately began life-saving efforts. Despite their attempts, Benjamin succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the location of the incident. This marked the first homicide investigation of the year for the Colorado Springs Police Department.

The investigation into his death was handled by the Colorado Springs Police Department's Violent Crime Homicide/Assault Unit, with assistance from the Tactical Enforcement Unit. Their work led to a significant development in the case just a few weeks later. On Tuesday, January 30, 2018, law enforcement officials announced that they had made an arrest.

The suspect taken into custody was identified as 36-year-old Arquinn Deandre Stafford. He was charged with first-degree murder for his alleged involvement in the death of Benjamin Lee Sharkey. At the time of Stafford's arrest, the police stated that the investigation was still active and ongoing. They urged anyone who may have witnessed the incident or had any information to contact the police department or to leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
