In the summer of 2016, a grim discovery was made in a Colorado Springs storage unit that would unravel a tale of violence and lead to the conviction of a double murderer. The body of 57-year-old Marcus Paul Anderson was found inside the unit on June 8, 2016. An investigation by the coroner's office would later reveal that Anderson had died from a gunshot wound.
At the time of his death, Anderson, a man who had worked for years as a metal finisher, was experiencing homelessness and was believed to have been living in the storage unit where his body was found.
The investigation into Anderson's homicide quickly led authorities to a man already in their custody. Glen Galloway, who was in jail for the shooting death of his 29-year-old girlfriend, Janice Nam, on May 30, was identified as the suspect in Anderson's murder. Investigators believed the two homicides were connected, alleging that Galloway had killed Anderson and then used his truck to drive to Nam's home and kill her. Police were concerned that Galloway might be responsible for other violent crimes and expanded their investigation. Anderson had last been seen on May 29, just a day before Nam's death.
In a trial that followed, the jury was presented with the prosecution's narrative of a calculated and brutal sequence of events. They argued that Glen Galloway's violent spree began with the murder of Marcus Anderson. Galloway's defense attorneys countered with a claim of self-defense in Anderson's death and that he had a mental break when he shot Nam. Ultimately, the jury convicted Galloway of second-degree murder in the death of Marcus Anderson and first-degree murder for the killing of Janice Nam. Despite the prosecution's request for the death penalty, the jury sentenced Galloway to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
