In the midst of a violent crime spree that gripped Colorado Springs on February 23, 2020, 39-year-old Eugene Pischke, a male, tragically lost his life. His death was one of two homicides committed that day by a single suspect who unleashed a wave of violence that included multiple shootings and carjackings.
Pischke was shot on Westmeadow Drive and was discovered by responding police officers. He was immediately transported to a local hospital, but tragically succumbed to his injuries.
The investigation into his death quickly became part of a larger, fast-moving case as law enforcement worked to connect the dots of a series of violent events that unfolded throughout the day.
The suspect was identified as 27-year-old Kyree Davon Howard-Walker. Police were able to link him to the crimes after recovering one of the stolen vehicles. The manhunt for Howard-Walker intensified as the community reeled from the senseless violence that had also claimed the life of another individual.
The pursuit of Howard-Walker ended when law enforcement located him in a home. As officers prepared to execute a search warrant, they found a woman, Serena Sublett, inside who was arrested on outstanding warrants. A further search of the residence revealed Howard-Walker, who was deceased from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. The El Paso County Coroner's Office later confirmed his identity, bringing a somber end to the rampage that had left two innocent victims dead and a community in mourning.
