In the early morning hours of June 15, 2008, a sense of unease settled over an apartment on North Murray Boulevard in Colorado Springs. Demetrius Donnell Binion, an 18-year-old Black male also known as 'Meechi,' was visiting from Chicago. He had made the trip to Colorado to spend time with an associate from his hometown who was stationed as a soldier at nearby Fort Carson. The visit, however, would soon take a tragic and violent turn, leaving a trail of unanswered questions that would linger for years to come.

At approximately 12:50 a.m., the piercing sound of a gunshot shattered the night's quiet. A frantic 911 call was made from the apartment, reporting the shooting. When police and paramedics arrived at the scene, they found Demetrius Binion inside the residence, having sustained a fatal gunshot wound to the chest. Despite the efforts of first responders, he was pronounced deceased at the scene. The subsequent autopsy would confirm that his death was a homicide.

The initial investigation revealed that there were three witnesses present in the apartment at the time of the shooting. Interviews with Binion's friends and associates suggested that he may have been involved in the use and sale of narcotics. Despite these leads and the presence of witnesses, the case grew cold. No arrests have ever been made in connection with the murder of Demetrius Binion, and no specific suspects have been publicly identified. His death remains an unsolved homicide, a cold case in the files of the Colorado Springs Police Department.
