In the early morning hours of October 4, 2014, the life of 43-year-old Linda Kochman, a female resident of Colorado Springs, Colorado, came to a sudden and violent end. Police were called to a home on Michigan Avenue shortly after midnight, where they discovered her deceased from a gunshot wound. The tragic event that unfolded was quickly determined to be a homicide by investigators.
Living in the home with Kochman at the time was 25-year-old Erik Dlouhy.
He was present at the scene when law enforcement arrived and was taken into custody in connection with the fatal shooting. An arrest was made, with Dlouhy facing a charge of manslaughter. The investigation into the circumstances surrounding Kochman's death began to unravel a story of what was described as a terrible accident fueled by a significant amount of alcohol.
In his account to the police, Dlouhy, who referred to Kochman as his wife, maintained that the shooting was unintentional. He stated that he would never have deliberately harmed her.
