In the spring of 2018, the life of 21-year-old Brandie Preciado was tragically cut short in a violent encounter in Colorado Springs, Colorado. On the evening of Sunday, April 22nd, Preciado was shot and killed while sitting in a car at the Canyon Ridge Mobile Home Park located in the 5100 block of Airport Road. The shooting, which also left a male companion critically injured, was not a random act of violence, as police later indicated that Preciado and the other victim had a connection to the suspect.
The investigation quickly zeroed in on 34-year-old William Camacho Jr. as the primary suspect. A warrant was issued for his arrest, leading to a dramatic series of events. On the Wednesday following the shooting, Camacho was spotted by law enforcement, instigating a high-speed chase that ended in a crash in Pueblo County. Following the wreck, Camacho was taken into custody. It was later revealed that the pursuit began after Camacho allegedly fired shots at a state trooper during a traffic stop on Interstate 25.
Subsequent court proceedings shed more light on the horrific details of that night. It was alleged that Camacho fired at least 19 rounds into the vehicle where Preciado was in the driver's seat. She was struck multiple times, with at least three shots to the chest proving to be fatal. Her boyfriend, who was in the passenger seat, was also shot in the face but survived his injuries. Friends and family remembered Brandie as a sweet, polite, and helpful young woman who was also a loving mother to a young son.
