In the early morning hours of February 16, 2019, the quiet of a Commerce City, Colorado street was shattered by violence. Elias Eugene Pickett, a 27-year-old male, was found lifeless in the 7100 block of Locust Street. Police had been called to the scene around 6 a.m. with reports of a shooting. When they arrived, they discovered Pickett's body in the middle of the road.
The investigation that followed painted a grim picture of his final moments.
It is believed that Pickett was dragged from a vehicle and then shot nine times, left to die in the street where he succumbed to his injuries. The brutal nature of the crime prompted an immediate homicide investigation by the Commerce City Police Department.
Despite their efforts, the search for those responsible for Pickett's death proved to be a difficult one. For approximately a year, detectives worked the case, gathering evidence and following leads. However, when the case was presented to the District Attorney's office, they declined to move forward with charges, deeming the evidence to be circumstantial. Consequently, the case was closed. To this day, no suspects have been publicly identified, and no arrests have been made in connection with the murder of Elias Eugene Pickett. The police have encouraged anyone with information to come forward.
