On the cold evening of December 19, 2008, in Commerce City, Colorado, a young man's life was cut short. Marco Escalera, a 22-year-old White male, was with his friends at the Parkway Liquor Store located at 6075 Parkway Drive around 11:15 p.m. Inside the store, a verbal altercation broke out between Escalera's group and other individuals.
The argument spilled out of the liquor store, and in the ensuing confrontation, Marco Escalera was shot.
In a desperate attempt to save him, his friends drove him to the hospital, but his injuries proved to be fatal. Escalera died that same night as a result of the gunshot wounds. The case is being investigated as a homicide by the Commerce City Police Department.
The death of Marco Escalera left his family in deep despair, particularly as it occurred so close to the Christmas holiday. The altercation that led to the fatal shooting was described as a fight between two groups.
