In the winter of 2020, a heart-wrenching event unfolded in the scenic landscapes of Estes Park, Colorado, culminating in the tragic death of 17-month-old Christopher Alan Watson. The young male's life was cut short on January 24th in what was determined by the Larimer County Coroner's Office to be a homicide. The devastating incident took place on the Beaver Meadow Trail within the boundaries of Rocky Mountain National Park.
Park rangers were initially alerted to a report of a suicidal individual who was believed to be in the park. This led them to discover a vehicle near Upper Beaver Meadows Road. A subsequent search of the area led to the grim discovery of two bodies on the Beaver Meadow Trail. The deceased were identified as Christopher and his 24-year-old mother, Tristen Watson, both of whom had sustained gunshot wounds.
The investigation into the deaths concluded that Tristen Watson was the sole perpetrator in this tragic event. Authorities determined that she was responsible for her son's death before taking her own life. As a result, there were no further suspects sought in connection with the case, and no arrests were made. The incident was officially ruled a murder-suicide, leaving a community to mourn the loss of a young child and his mother in such a devastating manner.
