On a warm summer evening in Denver, Colorado, the lives of the Hernandez Pozos family were irrevocably changed. Twenty-six-year-old Hispanic male Antonio Hernandez Pozos and his brother, Jovanni, were standing outside a Burger King at the intersection of East Colfax Avenue and Quebec Street on Tuesday, June 8, 2021. The night was shattered by the sound of gunfire as an unknown individual approached and fired multiple shots at the brothers without any apparent provocation.
The sudden
violence left both Antonio and Jovanni with critical injuries. Emergency services were quickly called to the scene by shocked bystanders, and the two brothers were rushed to a nearby hospital. Despite the efforts of medical staff, Antonio Hernandez Pozos succumbed to his injuries the following day, on Wednesday, June 9, 2021. His brother, Jovanni, was left seriously wounded but survived the attack. Antonio was a father to two young girls and worked in the auto body repair and painting business to support his family.
The Denver Police Department opened a homicide investigation into the tragic and seemingly random shooting. The case, however, has remained unsolved, adding to the grief of the Hernandez Pozos family and the community. While a suspect has been described as a Black male, no arrests have been made in connection with the murder. The motive for the attack remains a mystery, leaving a family searching for answers and a community shaken by the senseless loss of a young life. The investigation is still considered open as authorities continue to seek information from the public to bring justice for Antonio Hernandez Pozos.
